Environments
Liberty Eagle’s Learning Environments are designed to facilitate self-directed learning for a diverse student population. Some children excel with flash cards, others need teacher directed tutoring, while others need hands-on activity to solidify knowledge. We provide our students with a Modern Montessori Pedagogy, combining traditional Montessori problem based learning with teacher-directed didactic activities to facilitate the development of compassionate, confident, self-directed leaders.
How Are the Learning Communities Determined?
Liberty Eagle offers five learning communities with multi-age groupings. Children are generally grouped in three-year-age communities starting in Primary.
- Infant (6 weeks-18 months)
- Toddler (18 months-36 months)
- Primary (3-6 years)
- Lower Elementary (6-8.9 years)
- Upper Elementary (9-11.9 years)
- Middle School (12-14.9 years)
- High School (15+ years)
Which Community Will My Child Be In?
Student placement is based on a child’s developmental stage and not only by his or her age. Teachers, administrators, and parents work collaboratively to determine the best community for each child.
Will Liberty Eagle Offer High School Courses?
We plan to include a College Preparatory (9th-12th grade) environment in the near future that provides an exemplary, holistic Montessori education that prepares individuals for real-world living after high school. We recognize that some students will attend a college or university while others will attend a technical school, enter the workforce, or pursue entrepreneurship. Our goal is to prepare each child for the path that best fits his or her personhood.
Infant Program (6 weeks to 18 months)
Infants starting at 6 weeks, going to 18 months.
Learning Goals
Infants learn everything through their senses and the learning environment is specially prepared with this in mind. We use age-appropriate Montessori and traditional materials that foster curiosity and promote play-based learning. Our teachers work with your child to develop skills in four main areas: motor, social/emotional, sensory, and cognitive
Motor Development
We use many hands-on learning materials. Infants learn equilibrium and hand/eye coordination with the Object Permanence Box material, the Imbucare Box, Three Piece Circle Puzzle, Knobbed Cylinders, and many more Montessori works. Infants love the mobile hanger, the bell on a ribbon, and the shapes puzzle.
Many materials in the Infant community adapt to challenge your child as he/she progresses through the multitude of milestones.
Toddler Program (18 months to 36 months)
Toddlers love our small community filled with toddler-sized furniture and materials specifically designed for them. Our prepared environment for the Toddler community provides children with a calm, orderly space that encourages discovery.
Our toddler community teacher-to-student ratios are 1:6 during the Montessori Work Cycle and 1:8 during nap time and outdoor recess.
Our toddlers learn through five learning pathways that include Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, and Culture.
Primary Program (3 to 6 years)
Our primary children thrive in our carefully prepared environment of lessons aimed to guide their development of fine and gross motor skills, independence, creativity, practical life skills, sensory refinement, logical sequencing, as well as providing a sturdy foundation in language and mathematics. We strive to aid our Primary students in attaining the following skills:
- Refinement of fine motor skills through the use of Practical Life and Sensorial lessons
- Social skills development through participating in Grace & Courtesy lessons and practicing the use of expressive language
- Encourage respect and care for self, others, and environment
- Foster self-discipline and self-confidence
- Continued and expanded use of American Sign Language [ASL] to help increase communication skills
- Verbal language attainment through vocabulary lessons with 3-part language cards and small objects
- Written language
- Development of a strong mathematical foundation through the use of hands-on manipulatives progressing from concrete practice to abstraction of mathematical concepts
- Self-serving, scraping one’s plate, and use of table manners at meals
- Appreciation of the natural world through outdoor exploration
- Music and movement activities to guide coordination skills
Placement in our Primary Program is determined by more than just age. Emotional maturity, bathroom and dressing independence, self-regulation, and developmental/behavioral milestones are all taken into consideration before permanent placement is made.
All children are required to be fully potty trained before entering our Primary Program.
Elementary Programs: Lower (6 to 8.9 years) & Upper (9 to 11.9 years)
- Our elementary children are passionate about life and learning. Each day they focus on acquiring essential life skills, good character, and valuable social skills through lessons specifically aimed at capturing their interests. Our vision is to create a self-reliant leader in every child. Each child receives differentiated instruction designed to help the individual to grow and maximize learning across a variety of subjects and subsets.
- Our elementary students actively engage in developmentally-appropriate learning. While enjoying the freedom of discovery that is innate to Montessori, students simultaneously learn discipline through traditional instructional techniques. Our in-depth curriculum challenges students to develop 21st-century learning skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. Students are inspired to holistically grow through S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) activities. As of October 2020, Liberty Eagle Academy is accredited with QUALITY through 8th grade by the Georgia Accrediting Commission!
